Tan shi (phlegm wetness) is a traditional Chinese medicine term. The syndrome includes: cough with abundance of white thin phlegm or spitting mucus, lump in chest and abdomen area, or rapid breathing with noise of phlegm, or vomiting with undigested food, lack of appetite, heavy sensation of limbs and body, pale complexion, pale and thick tongue with slippery fur, slow or slippery pulse. It also shows that there is obstruction in microcirculation. This syndrome often appears in cough, asthma, vomiting or in coma. Clinically it should be differentiated with wind-phlegm or cold phlegm syndrome.
