Relationship of Age and Pulse Wave Velocity in Rural China Edited by: Joe Hing kwok Chu There is a very low prevalence of atherosclerosis and hypertension in rural China. The increase of vessel stiffness is likely a true age effect. Pulse wave velocity provides information on stiffness and distensibility of an artery. Stiffer the artery or lesser its distensibility, higher the pulse wave velocity. The measurement of pulse wave velocity is usefull in the study of the effects of aging, vascular diseases, vaso-dilating and vaso-constricting agents on arteries. Sample: 524 rural Chinese subjects aged 2 months to 94 years.
Pulse wave velocity increased with age. Click here for a study on garlic and pulse wave velocity. If the above link cannot be reached , click here for a snapshot of the webpage.
