Distribution:

Originally it was distributed in south of the Yangtze River of China as well as Indochina, India and Japan. Now also cultivated in Guangdong, Fujian, Guangxi, Jiangxi, Zhejiang provinces.

原產中國長江流域以南各地以及中南半島各地，印度和日本。現在 ，廣東，福建，廣西 ，江西，浙江等地區有栽培。

spermicidal, contraceptive, hepatoprotective, emetic, anti-inflammatory and anti-protozoal. [1]

Actions & Indications:

主治﹕

For treatment of sore and swollen  throat, cough, indigestion, vaginal discharge, malnutrition, sores, swollen boils,, diphtheria, seminal vesicle disease, cloudy discharge from urination,  frequent urination, infection, phlegm, parasites..

治喉痺腫痛，咳喘，食滯，白帶，疳積，瘡痺，腫毒。用於白喉症 ，精囊病，淋濁尿頻。清熱，祛痰，消積，殺蟲。

Dosage:

用 量﹕

For oral consumption: for decoction 3 - 6 g; or make into powder and take orally.

External use: make into powder and blow into throat,  or for brushing teeth, or make into decoction for washing the affected area, or simmer into extract of paste and apply to affected areas.

內服：煎湯，3 ~6 g；研末或煨食。外用：研末吹喉，擦牙 ，或煎湯洗，熬膏塗。

Samples of formulae:

處方舉 例﹕

1. For treatment of sore and swollen throat, one side or both side: wu huan zi 9 g, feng wei cao 9 g. Boil with water and take orally. [2]

2. For treatment of sore and swollen throat: wu huan zi 6 g, yuan ming fen 4.5 g,  bing pian 1.8 g. If sickness is serious add she xiang 0.3 g. [2]

3. For treatment of asthma: wu huan zi burned into ash. Mix and drink with boiled water. For small children: 1.8 g. For adult, use 3 g. Take every day for a few days. [2]

4. For parasites and malnutrition: wu huan zi 5-7 pieces. Boil with water or bake till cooked. Once a day. It can be taken continuously for a few day. [3]

5. For Dermatophytes fungal infection (ring worm): use appropriate amount of wu huan zi and boil with vinegar. Wash and rub the affected areas with the liquid. [2]

6. For treatment of toothache: wu huan zi 30 g, da huang 30 g, xiang fu 30 g, qing yan 15 g. Wrap the herbs with clay and bake. Grind into powder and use it for brushing teeth. [4]

1. 治雙單 鵝喉(一邊或兩邊喉嚨腫痛）：無患子三錢，鳳尾草三錢，煎服。《嶺南草藥誌》

2.  治 鵝喉：無患子二錢，元明粉一錢五分，梅片六 分，研極細末吹喉。嚴重者加麝 香一 分。《嶺南草藥誌》

3.  治 哮喘：無患子煅灰，開水沖服，小兒每次六分，成人每次錢，每日一次， 連服數天。《嶺南草藥誌》

4.  治 蟲積食滯：無患子五至七粒，煨熟吃，每日一次，可連服數日。《廣西民 間常用草藥》

5.  治 厚皮癬：無患子酌量，用好醋煎沸，趁熱搽洗患處。《嶺南草藥誌》

6.  治 牙齒腫痛：無患子，大 黃，香附子各一兩，青 鹽半兩，泥固煅研，日用擦牙。《普濟方》

Toxicity & Cautions:

毒素與禁忌﹕

no known side effect. Avoid direct contact with eyes.

避免與眼睛接觸。目前還沒發現有文獻記載不良反應。
