Anti-apoptotic Effect of Kong Sheng Zhen Zhong Pill (dan) on Rats with Vascular Dementia Translated and annotated by: Joe Hing Kwok Chu Purpose of Study: To study the effect and mechanism of of Kong sheng zhen zhong pill (KSZZ Pill) on vascular dementia of animal models on anti-apoptosis. By Ji Xu Ming, Wang Fang, Jiang Tao Method: 50 Wister rats were divided into 5 groups with 10 rats in each group: Control group Model group 2-pyrrolidone acetamide (piracetam) group Low dosage of KSZZ Pills High dosage of KSZZ Pills
Except the control group, all other groups were made into vascular dementia condition. After giving the herb through filling the stomachs of the rat, flow cytometry is being used to examine the rate of apoptosis of the neuron and B-cell CLL/lymphoma 2 (bcl2) expression. and used immunohistochemical method to examine p53 expression. Result: KSZZ pills and 2-pyrrolidone acetamide (piracetam) can reduce the apoptosis of the neurons of the hippocampi of the rats and B-cell CLL/lymphoma 2 (bcl2) expression, and improved the p53 expression. The result of these two therapy methods of KSZZ pills and 2-pyrrolidone acetamide (piracetam) did not show any obvious differences. Note: p53 is an oncogene and a tumor-suppressor gene whose gene product regulates the cell growth cycle.
