Estrogen
by: Joe Hing Kwok Chu
Estrogen, a steroid hormone, mainly produced by the ovaries and a small amount by the adrenal cortex, is responsible for promoting sexual excitement and the development and maintenance of female secondary sex characteristics.
Estrone and estradiol are two of the estrogens that possess stronger biological functions. Under normal conditions the amount of production from the adrenal cortex is very small and does not greatly influence the function of the body.
