xue han, coldness in blood 血寒

Xue han literally means coldness in blood. It is a traditional Chinese medical term.  The causes can be infection induced by cold air or caused by yangxu (yang deficient).

.

The clinical syndrome: hands and feet or lower abdomen being cold, preferring warm and abhorring coldness. Pain is lessen if it is warm. Hands and feet are blue and purple. The sensation of coldness travels from the hands and feet up to the elbows and knees. In women, the menses are irregular,  pain in abdomen after the periods,  blood is purple and with pieces of clots. The tongue is purple with white fur. Pulse is deep and slow.

血寒証是指寒邪客於血脈,阻礙氣機,血行不暢所引起的証候。 多由感受寒邪或機體陽虛所 致。

主要臨床表現:手足或少腹疼痛,喜暖惡寒,得溫痛減。手足厥冷色青紫,婦女月經期不準期,經後腹痛,經色紫暗夾血塊。舌紫暗苔白,脈沉遲澀。

註:手足厥 冷,亦稱為 "手足逆冷" 或 "四逆"。指手足四肢由下而上冷至肘膝的症狀。
