性味﹕

bitter, sweet, neutal.

味甘、苦,性平。

Medical functions:

藥理﹕

Anti fatigue, anti stress, improves immune system, anti virus

抗疲勞﹐應激作用,并有增強免疫系統﹐抗病毒作用。(太子参皂甙A有抗病毒作用)。

Actions & Indications:

主治﹕

benefit qi and correct yinxu condition. Its qi enhancing effect is not as strong as ren shen (ginseng). It better suits those with weak function and yinxu (yin deficient) and those who cough due to lung qi deficient, yinxu (yin deficient) ; for chronic and acute hepatitis.. It is commonly used as substitute for ren shen and for huang qi in cases of hypertension. Compared to xi yang shen (American ginseng), it is a better choice for correcting yinxu condition.

益氣滋陰生津。但補氣之力遠不及人 參。 較重於滋 陰 ﹐生津止渴﹐調肺潤 燥。宜 于陰 虛 體弱 者﹔肺 氣不足陰 虛 咳嗽。急慢性肝 炎。處 方時有血壓偏高情況者﹐常用太子參代替人 參黃耆。 比起 西洋參﹐太子參養陰之力較強。

Chemical ingredients:

化學成份﹕

  1. 太子参皂 甙A (taizishen saponin A)﹐

  2. 棕櫚酸 (palmitic acid)﹐

  3. 亞油酸 (linoleic acid) ,

  4. β-谷 甾醇 (β-sitosterol)

  5. 糖 (sugar)

  6. 磷脂 (phosphatides),

  7. 氨基酸 (amino acid), 含有 16 種氨基酸,其中人體必需的 八種。佔 氨基酸總量的 40%。                                  It contains 16 amino acid, among them, eight kinds of the amino acid, constituting 40% of the total amino acid,  are required by the human body.

  8. 揮發油 (essential oil)

  9. 微量元素 ﹕鐵﹐銅 ﹐錳﹐鋅﹐硒﹐鈷﹐鉬 等。     Trace elements of : iron, copper, manganese, zinc, selenium, cobalt, molybdenum etc.

10 ~ 30 g

處方舉例﹕

Samples of formulae:

  1. Qi deficient and blood deficient after illness:         tai zi shen 15 g, huang qi 12 g, wu wei zi 3 g, chao bai bian dou 9 g, da zao 4 pieces. Boil with water. Use as tea

  2. Neurasthenia:                                                     tai zi she 15 g, dang gui, suan zao ren, yuan zhi, shi gan cao 9 g each. Boil with water. Use as tea.

  3. Pixu, weak digestion, loose stool, and lack of appetite:      tai zi xhen 12 g, bai zhu 9 g, fu ling 9 g, chen pi 6 g, gan cao 6 g. Boil with water. Use as tea.

處方舉例﹕

  1. 病後血血 虧虚:太子參15g,黃 耆 12g,五味子3g,炒白 扁 豆 9g,大 棗4枚 。水 煎服。

  2. 神經衰弱:太子參15g,當 歸 、酸棗仁、遠志、炙甘 草 各9g。水煎服。

  3. 脾虚便溏、食欲不振:太子參12g,白 朮 茯 苓 各9g,陳皮甘 草 各6g,水煎服。

Warning:

禁忌﹕

Overdosing may cause undesirable effect.

過量服用可能有不良反應。

Note:  Two of the Chinese classics, Ben Cao Cong Xin  《本草從新》and

Ben Cao Gang Mu Shi Yi 《本草綱目拾遺 mentioned that tai zi shen

was "ren shen of the small sizes" The tai zi shen being used today and being

discussed in this article is the roots of a completely different plant,

not the small sizes ren shen (Panx ginseng) as mentioned in those classics,

but is Pseudostellaria heterophylla (miq) Pax ex Pax et Hoffm.
