Causes of Periodontal disease

Local causes:
1. local bacteria infection
2.
calculus building up
3.
food impaction
4.
incorrect dental work
5.
breathing through the mouth
6.
incorrect positions of the teeth
7.
drug or chemical usage
8.
over biting


Systemic causes

1. malnutrition
2.
function of medication
3.
pregnancy, diabetes, hormone imbalance, growing period
4.
allergy
5.
genetic 
6.
mood problems
7.
granulomatous disease (肉芽腫感染)
 

Herb Formula

Name of formula:  yin hua detoxifying  tea

jin yin hua 9 g, zhu ye 9 g, xuan shen 9 g, lian qiao 9 g,

sheng gan cao 4.5 g. Boil with water to make tea.

In case of bleeding, add sheng di, mao gen; forming of pus,

add zao jiao, chao shan jia. Remove calculus.

Apply potassium iodide powder to bottom of the sag of swollen

 gum and use 3% hydrogen peroxide solution to wash around

the swollen gum.

 

Effectiveness: 

Number of patients: 113

Cured: 79 (70%)

Improved: 28 (24.7%)

Not effective: 6 (5.3%)

 

Avoid eating spicy food because it may trigger recurrence.

  1. Chlorhexidine Gluconate Oral Rinse is a good choice as oral rinse.

  2. Removal of totally diseased teeth prevents further infection of healthy teeth.

  3. Removal of calculus every six months is important to maintain the health of the gum.

Note: Chlorhexidine Gluconate Oral Rinse, an antiseptic, is also marketed in brands like Peridex, Periochip, PerioGard and in UK it is marketed as Corsodyl or Chlorohex, and in Australia as Savacol.  Chlorhexidine is de-activated by anionic compound, including anionic surfactants being used in tootpaste, mouth washes. So it is better to not to use  chlorhexidine gluconate within 30 minutes of using tootpaste or mouth washes. Not to eat, drink or smoke within an hour of using chlorhexidine gluconate. This antiseptic product when marketed as oral rinse is diluted to 0.12%.

牙周病

銀花解毒湯

金銀花 9 , 竹葉 9 , 玄參 9 , 連翹 9 ,生甘草 4.5 .

水煎服。

如出血,加 生地黃, 茅根

如化膿,加  皂角刺, 穿山甲. 外用碘化鉀粉末用探針搽袋底。

最後用3%氧化氫溶液2 ~ 5c.c. 輕加壓沖洗牙周袋。

 

牙周病是頑固性的疾病。時常復發。尤其吃辣椒或某種香料後常常復發。

  1. 氯己定葡萄糖酸鹽 0.12%溶液(Chlorhexidine Gluconate 0.12%) 有效。

  2. 除掉壞死的牙齒可防止感染其他健康的牙齒。

  3. 須每六個月清除牙齒洉石一次﹐以保持牙齒與牙周健康。
